The Jordanian and Palestinian Ministries of Tourism and Antiquities held a meeting on Monday to discuss strengthening tourism cooperation and developing joint initiatives, particularly in religious, cultural, and heritage tourism.

The meeting, held amid the difficult circumstances facing the regional tourism sector, addressed several key issues, including facilitating tourist and pilgrim movement, visa arrangements and entry into the Palestinian territories, joint tourism products, and coordinated marketing in promising Asian and African markets.

Mr. Michel Awad, President of the Holy Land Incoming Tour Operators Association (HLITOA), participated in the meeting representing the Palestinian private tourism sector. Royal Jordanian Airlines also participated, highlighting the importance of air connectivity in supporting tourism between the two countries.

The two sides agreed to establish a joint tourism cooperation committee, with HLITOA as a member, to follow up on agreed priorities and develop practical initiatives.

Awad said:

“Jordan and Palestine have complementary tourism assets, particularly in Christian pilgrimage and cultural heritage. Rather than competing for visitors, we should work together to attract them, extend their stay, and offer an integrated experience connecting the religious and historical sites of both countries.”

He added:

“The new joint committee provides an important opportunity to move from coordination to practical action, particularly in facilitating access to Palestine, developing joint products, and jointly promoting Jordan and Palestine in international markets.”
